is that the shrine at the top of a hill with the manju vendors on the way up? I think there’s a shopping mall somewhere near the bottom of the hill with a massive (for our standards, not for japanese standards) ferris wheel in it and the best indoor kids play area (couple of bucks, leave your kids and husband (that would be me in this example) and go shop (that would be my wife and my cousin)).
one of the only downsides of having relatives in Fukuoka, I think, is that I never got the chance to wander and explore like you’ve had. we were always in a car going here and there, visiting cool places, obviously, but missing out on the small unknown places. other relatives’ homes in other areas meant that we got to see more of the island (oita, yamaga, kumamoto, etc) but in much less detail. I wouldn’t mind going back but not telling my relatives until the fourth day of a week long trip. maybe next time.
