#CatTravels: Butterflies in Montezuma

By Catherine Toth Fox • August 26, 2012 • #CatTravels

Most people come to Malpais in Costa Rica for the surf.

But to be honest, there’s more than just the uncrowded breaks and year-round swells to this area. (Though, I have to admit, it’s a draw.)

We ditched our (failed) attempts to find surf and drove about an hour to Montezuma, a remote fishing village to the south of where we were staying. It’s turned into a tourist destination, filled with restaurants, souvenir shops, eco-tours and yoga retreats. But I had heard about a butterfly farm that sounded pretty interesting.

And really, what else did we have to do today?

Here’s what our adventure in Montezuma looked like:

We had a guest during the last couple of days at Hotel Vista De Olas. Her name was Kung Fu — and she made herself right at home.

Not that you’ve ever posted a bad picture, but this batch is spectacular. Good subjects and a keen eye have re-energized your photographic spirit on this trip.

Aw, thanks! Credit my Canon 60D — which, by the way, I dropped at the airport in Atlanta and broke. Ugh. Good thing the trip was already over!

Nice pics, love the cat. Somehow I am always hungry after going through one of your galleries.

Did the cat eating the Spam musubi make you hungry? (Did I post that…?)

Nope… that one didn’t make the cut. Just like the coloration etc, looks like a cool kitty. Mine is jet black with a white tuft on her chest. Glad she is not two feet tall, she is a predator.

CAT: Did you ever mention what type of money they use and what if any is the conversion rate?

No, I didn’t! Thanks for reminding me! Costa Rica uses colon. Roughly 500 colon = $1 USD. We didn’t have to spend much, especially on food.
