Uncharacteristic of us, we slept in.
But we did have a long journey to get here — and we didn’t sleep much on the plane.
So we got up at the ungodly hour of 7 a.m. — yes, we’re usually up way before this! — and headed to the hotel pool area where breakfast would be served.
I half expected a bowl of granola and a few fruits left in a bowl. To our surprise, there was a staffer who whipped up just about whatever we wanted. So we ordered pancakes, grabbed a cup of coffee and hit the road to explore Malpais.
On foot, by the way.
Here’s what our second day looked like:

Ask a local about empanadas, you can usually find a family that has a restaurant in their house that will serve them up for cheap. Did this once and the food was so good it became a favorite stop. It usually takes a couple of days for the storm effects to die down and the surf to return to normal. Good luck with that! Also, be careful with some of the tropical fruits. a lot of them taste awesome and you find yourself eating a lot of them. Then you find out they make the ‘prune effect’ look like child’s play. Forget what the smaller red fruit is called but it is potent.
Thanks for the warning about local fruit — though we’ve been eating a ton of them. Yikes!
Costa Rica. the summer home of the CIA. enjoy!
Hello Cat,
Nice pictures
Spectacular pics, and sleeping in after some exploring and adventure is just the thing.
Great Pictures.
Thanks for sharing.
CAT: I think the reason why the dog followed you is because it smelled “dog people” on you. The scent of your dogs lingers on clothing and stuff.
Good. I thought maybe it was because I smelled like Spam. LOL
