Some of my favorite memories of living in Chicago center around Evanston, Ill.
This quaint suburb 12 miles north of Chicago is home to Northwestern University, a private research university that I attended back in the late ’90s.
The little college town is home to about 74,000 residents — and equally as many coffee shops. It was one of the first places I had wanted to take Derek on our jaunt to Chicago.
So on our second day in the Windy City, we walked along Michigan Avenue for a bit, then drove up Lake Shore Drive to Evanston to see my old haunts.
Here’s what yesterday looked like:

Cod is bad – not sustainable. Heavily overfished, causing collapse of many ecosystems. Don’t promote it. Even in England it is frowned upon.
My first Cat sighting was a great piece titled “Show Your Face” the Trib’s Redeye publication, and I have enjoyed your writing and blogging ever since. Happy and safe travels to you and all.
Ah yes cod, tender white delicious fish. Could find it anywhere and at a cheap price until McDonald’s introduced the filet of fish sandwich. It didn’t take long to over fish the entire North Atlantic. The original fish sandwich was excellent, way under priced for what you got. Used to eat them all the time when I worked for McD’s in high school. Used to leave off the tartar sauce and sub in ketchup.
Don’t think the cod industry has recovered from the filet of fish yet.
