Duck strudel, gourmet cupcakes, hand-tossed pizzas, cheese curds.
We needed to burn some calories, STAT.
Luckily, it warmed up this morning — reaching the mid-40s — with bright skies. Perfect running weather. So we laced up our shoes — and wore as many layers as possible for a three-mile jog — and headed out the door and to the runner-friendly Lakeshore Path.
It was the only way we could justify eating at Five Guys later.
Here’s what our quiet Monday in Madison looked like:
Fries
Look at these fries. Crispy on the outside, with that mashed-like potato on the inside. These are seriously addictive — and, incidentally, rated as one of the unhealthiest fries in America, per Men's Health. But the chain asserts its fries are cooked in pure, no cholesterol peanut oil.

1)did you see any squirrels and think they were mongoose, yet? 2) did you skip-throw a rock across the lake and hit that lovely mallard? 3) if you were a member of the Polar Bears Club….ya woulda went for a swim too! 4) heard anyone say “bubbler” yet? and 5) have the urge to end your sentences in prepositions yet, there…
1) No, but I thought about mongooses and how much I miss them.
2) Nope, but Derek did. And he didn’t hit a duck.

Hello Cat! nice day and that burger looks so juicy!
Oh, Five Guys is pretty damn delicious! Wish one would open in Hawaii!
That burger looks great! But I think you and Derek need to run a half marathon to burn off all those calories….over 1000! Yikes!
But you both look like your in great shape so what’s a few calories here and there. Ok it’s lunch, time for an In-N-Out double-double with a chocolate milkshake.
I actually only ate half of my burger; Derek ate the other half. So essentially, he ate one and a half burgers! But I ate most of the fries, which, I think , are worse.
Considering how long you have to wait at Inn&Out for your food, I hope this place was more efficient.
It wasn’t too crowded, so the wait wasn’t long at all. But even at In-N-Out, I don’t mind the wait. It’s worth it!
