#CatTravels: The search for food in Seattle

By Catherine Toth Fox • November 3, 2012 • #CatTravels, Food

Seattle has quite a food scene, and I was ready to eat my way through the city.

This coastal seaport, with 3.4 million residents in its metro area, offers the bounty of both the land and sea. Fresh produce, meats and seafood are easily available, and chefs here love to incorporate seasonal flavors to everything from soups to ice creams.

So in between Derek’s presentation at the History of Education Society‘s national conference in downtown Seattle and visiting with his cousins, we hit up some of the city’s best and beloved eateries.

And I came hungry!

Here’s what our second day in Seattle looked like:

I'm a huge fan of the public transit in Seattle. The buses, the light rail — they were all convenient and affordable. Since we didn't rent a car, this was really our only way around town, and to be honest, it was easy, quick and painless.

So glad you got to meet Pam! Bakery Nouveau is in her ‘hood-she’s the expert on West Seattle.

More memories! On the other end of the West Lake Mall train ride of course is the Space Needle. When we first moved to Seattle we lived in a boutique place near the base. There were some great eateries in that area too. The restaurant in the tower is really good but it is another of those eat there at night things. I’ve herd great things about Dahlia’s but have not eaten there. Rover’s is good.

Must say that pizza looked pretty amazing… different kind than at the Flying Pie but both appeal to me. If you make it out to Issaquah, east of Seattle, try Tantalus. Jak’s, Noodle Boat, or Stan’s for a great BBQ sandwich.

Frankly I hated Seattle because of the weather. But there were many things to do and lots of great places to eat. Shame you guys don’t have a car. Some of the best places are outside of Seattle. There are some excellent places in Redmond for example

FYI: Your image – well, a silent video of you reporting on the election – is in the backdrop of Sky News commercials for a segment you must have done on reporting on the election from around the country. It was a bit surreal to look up and see you on the British satellite. They’re running the ad almost every 10 minutes. The Cat Dish might be getting a lot more hits from the UK!
