I was worried I didn’t bring enough warm clothes.
I had a couple of sweaters, two jackets, a heavy coat. And unless I wore everything in my luggage, I didn’t think I’d be warm enough.
So you can imagine my relief (and elation) when I woke up and checked the weather forecast. Mid-40s. I can do that.
So I bravely put on tights, a denim skirt, a wool sweater and a heavy coat — lightly dressed by Wisconsin standards — and headed to State Street to work and study again.
I have to say, this is a great little town. Lots of restaurants, cafes, bookstores, free WiFi — all of my favorite things in one square mile.
Here’s what we did on our second day in Madison — and yes, I finally ate cheese curds:
Candies galore

Woohoo!! Cheese curds in the blog! Easy to see why Midwestern folks have a reputation for girth. Now you have to go to Canada to step up the curd to poutine: cheese curd fries, gravy-over
Canada? Sounds like a plan. Just a quick jaunt, right?
Cheese curd fries with gravy all over — that will get me to drive anywhere!
Cheese curds… you either love them or hate them… a few years ago when I was in Wisconsin, I asked my friends about cheese curds since I saw it on a TV show called “Travelers”. They took me to the factory (family run) that made them. We got a bag and I decided it was OK but my other friend from Hawaii absolutely hated them. He wanted to spit them out.
Of course they were fresh and not deep fried like yours. Think that makes a major difference.
Wow, didn’t realize there were such strong opposing feelings toward cheese curds. I found them to be extremely palatable. Salty, though, but I’m OK with that. 🙂
wonderful! now imagine bitter cold ,winds , and huge mounds of snow!
uh oh….not fried cheese curds.Every thing is getting fried these days! gotta try the “regular” kine. Hit the local Sentry. So from my understanding, the genesis of the curd is its the top part that usually gets skimmed off when they make cheese. And actually the healthiest part….and one day, someone had an idea……..
LOL, everything IS fried these days!
Hello Cat!
Everything looks so guud! Derek must spend a lot on fuud.
Nope. He eats instant ramen a lot. I’m the one who spends a lot on food — and he’s the happy recipient!
I am so hungry after catching up on your food eating experiences!! Yummy! How do you stay so thin?!
