Last week I blogged about my love/hate relationship with farmers’ markets, particularly the crowded, impossible-to-just-get-vegetables one at Kapiolani Community College on Saturdays.
In response — to the problem, not my blog — the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation decided to try something new: a Tuesday night farmers’ market with fewer vendors and a focus on providing great food and local vegetables, fruits and flowers to residents — and everyone who avoided the intense Saturday version.
After my blog, folks comments and tweeted that I should check out this more relaxed farmers’ market that didn’t get too crowded — and wouldn’t stress me out.
So I went last night to see whether it was different from the Saturday craziness — and I was pleasantly surprised.
Here’s what it looked like:
Tuesday Night Farmers' Market
This is HFBF's third nighttime farmers' market — the other two are at the Blaisdell on Wednesdays and in Kailua on Thursdays — and an answer to folks who love farmers' markets but hate the Saturday crowd. We got here at around 4:30 p.m. and it was a stark contrast to the one here on Saturdays. We could actually find parking!
