Heart-ful gifts for Valentine's Day

By Catherine Toth Fox • February 10, 2011 • Musings, The Daily Dish

I’ve never been a flower kind of girl.

I much prefer gifts that are practical and useful. Give me a crock pot or a flat iron before a stuffed animal and bouquet of overpriced roses.

See, I don’t think the commercialized image of “romance” is really “romantic.” Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a thoughtful card like the next woman. But I find a home-cooked meal — where I don’t have to wash the dishes — way more romantic than a scented bath strewn with rose petals. (I mean, who’s going to clean that up?)

Since Valentine’s Day is Monday — yes, Monday, guys! — you have an entire weekend to shop.

Here are some gift ideas for her, for him and maybe even just for you:

After our commercial filming this week, I think I want a Go Pro camera!! oh, and a massage. Always.

      @Melissa808 Massage first!

i thought that tee shirt looked the color of red wine. ima go online and look for the chocolate one.

for a brief min there i thought YOU had a new dog. i need new glasses.

those were great gift ideas. you could be a pro shopping consultant.

@turkfontaine If I got a new dog, I’d devote an entire blog to it! (I almost got another one, too, until I came home and saw that Indy had chewed up a pair of Converse shoes.)

I love how we are practical gift kind of girls. Don’t get me wrong, flowers are beautiful but your $50 dies within a couple of days. LOL. Love the guide!

@jermel_lynn I feel the same way. Flowers are great — but they don’t last long. A surfboard, however, can last a lifetime 🙂

    Hello Cat!
I agree with the flowers, I rather get something that will be long lasting.
    Great Ideas Cat!

    I’ll take practical anyday!

Cat, does the Nespresso make real coffee, or espresso with hot water Americanos? Don’t get me wrong, the second one would be great alone!

    Thanks!

      * meaning my second option mentioned.

good ideas, I still do flowers but dinner at a four star restaurant is included. Btw, I think you’d look great in that dress.

Thank you for the ideas. Every one a potential hit.

Not a big fan of this holiday, wish it would go away. Having said that if someone would like to send me a foot massage coupon and a ticket to the Sanwa Beach Hotel to take advantage of it, case of Titleist Pro V1x golf balls, or perhaps a trip to St. Andrews for a tee time at the old course I might change my opinion of this holiday.

Oh all right, I’ll settle for a day sailing from Oahu to Maui….

@dbjack It’s a good holiday for new couples, etc. But definitely it’s a commercial holiday through and through.

@MaxMaxMax Yeah, great holiday for newlyweds, newly engaged, new something but not so much for those of us who’ve been through a couple of them. Although a new set of Titleist 710 MB’s might thaw my opinion a touch.
