Ever notice how people drive cars based on their personality?
Like old Japanese men drive old, white Subaru Foresters, paddlers drive trucks (with racks) or young downtown professionals, at least in Hawaii, are into Audi or Lexus?
I could never figure out what car fits my personality. Some have said I need something sporty — but I can’t fit a 9-foot surfboard in a Mercedes-Benz Roadster. But a truck doesn’t fit it me, either; they’re not practical — can’t lock your board in your car — and burn up too much gas.
So I decided to take a car personality quiz online — and there are a lot out there — and the result?
I’m a Honda Civic.
Which is funny because that’s what I drove for about 10 years until I totaled it in an accident last December.
Here’s what the quiz reported:
You’re a reliable and practical friend who can be counted on to come through when needed. You are rarely unprepared and would prefer to play it safe rather than take an unnecessary risk.
Hmm. I guess that’s true. But it sounds so… boring.
So I took another quiz — I’m telling you, there are TONS online! — and came up with this instead: a BMW 135i Coupe.
A sleek, sexy sports car is perfect for you. So what if the cost is a little steep, it’s worth it for a smooth ride. You love speed and take life by the horns. Someone slowing you down in life? Just pass ’em!
Better!
I hope the hubby is reading this!

beats the hell out of “you’re a bus pass” (sorry Rod)
could be worse, could be, “My only car is my feet.” 😛
I drive a Corvair.
Old, moves when it wants to, and takes a while to warm up.
I drive a Corvair.
If I were a car I would be either a Toyota Corolla or an Aventador… 3 guesses what they have in common.
So just get the 2dr Civic Si and still save a wad of cash…
G’day Cat,
Wen u wuz on da Big Island, u nevah notice dat plenny house get one sedan & one truck–pickup.
Over here we don’t have garbage pickup unless you pay, a lot of fishing, hunting & hiking areas so trucks or SUV’s are for real use.
I had a Honda Accord hatchback in ’78, had a weird transmission. Like my Toyotas better, personal preference, eh?
Hey Cat: … I’m one of those Toyota Corolla’s with the original “T” emblem removed and replaced with the Lexus “L” emblem …
… like, hey, nice car… wait a minute … something just doesn’t look right!!! …
Cuz i took the test and I’m a “Dodge Ram, a full-size pickup truck (100%) “, well i guess the quiz works. I drive a 2005 Dodge Ram. LOL
I’ve liked just about every Civic from the present, very nice models, back to the tiny hatchbacks or the early 80s with motorcycle-size engines. However, I’ve never driven one. The only Honda I ever owned was a Prelude, not my auto soulmate, as it turned out. I loved the look and feel of the car, but it was just too light and used to slide around horribly on snow and ice. Living in the frozen north, it was my enemy in winter more than my friend.
I hate to opine, not knowing you except from your blog, but Cat, you seem to me a Jeep Wrangler. I mean that as a compliment.
As to that 1-series BMW, maybe. Fun, but high maintenance, and you definitely seem fun, but not so expensive to keep and fix. Civic seems much better, if not the Jeep.
I have had to drive a lot for work, some years close to 30K miles, so I’ve owned a lot of cars and driven many, many rentals over my 30-year career. Over time, they grew to become things that passed through my life, and I don’t get too excited or identify too closely with cars anymore.
Hello Cat!
Those european cars are very nice but are very pricey not only to purchase but parts and repairs are expensive too.
I drive a truck with racks.
CAT: When I was younger, I liked cars with front bench seats…for obvious reasons. Now that I am old, fat, and poor, I drive a 14 yr old Toyota Camry.
What does it mean when the test says I’m an Edsel???
