Maui is deceivingly big and small at the same time.
It’s the second-largest of the Hawaiian Islands, and those 727.2 square miles isn’t all that easy to access. There are roads that don’t connect and, well, large mountains in the way.
And yet, it’s small enough that you can check the surf at Hookipa, grab coffee in Makawao, eat a chicken pot pie in Lahaina, taste wine in Ulupalakua and be back at your hotel in Paia before your dinner reservations.
Trust me, I did it.

Cat,
Thanks for letting us share a little bit of your Maui vacation. I love Maui and I’m looking forward to going there hopefully this summer.
Hey Cat: … damn!!! … those strawberries are reason enough to make me wanna fly over to Maui!!! … you had me at strawberries … but the rest of the pics are great too!!! …
… I don’t know why … but I’ve never been to Maui …
… maybe not for long, though … thanks for the pics!!! …
… I get excited just seeing what you’re doing over there …
Hello Cat,
I haven’t been to Maui in years and it’s time for a visit.
Loved these pics. Made me think a bit. First, number 5 with the donuts on a stick. That is so cool. I had Krispy Kreme today. One chocolate cake donut, one chocolate frosted, and finally a chocolate covered custard filled. Oh yeah, washed it down with 2% milk. My comfort food.
When I got to the pic about the freshly manicured lawn I laughed. My thoughts were of the freshly manicured Crooked Creek Golf Course I played nine holes at this afternoon. Then my son and I took the dog to the park so she could go crazy.
Maui is pretty awesome. Thanks for sharing, when next I find myself there I will check out some of these places I’ve not been to yet.
Oh, I want to go!!
Hey Cat – Thanks for the posts on Lahainaluna and the Boarding Dept especially. I was a boarder from ’86-’90 and there’s always talk of shutting the dept down, so good to see it’s still going. Funny, in my four years at the school I’d never been inside Hale Pa’i, so your pics were the first time I’d seen the inside even though I’d walked past it probably thousands of times. Thx!
