On The Road: Hilo Farmer’s Market

By Catherine Toth Fox • September 18, 2011 • #CatTravels

As soon as we got off the plane in Hilo, we headed straight to the Hilo Farmer’s Market, a must-stop destination on your next visit to the east side of the Big Island.

Though the market is open daily — on the corner of Mamo Street and Kamehameha Avenue in downtown Hilo — the days to go are Wednesdays and Saturdays, when more than 200 vendors on three corners show up, selling everything from Big Island coffee, locally grown produce, honey, crafts, jams, prepared foods and tropical flowers.

Here’s a peek inside:

For some reason picture number 16 was the bell ringer for me. Been craving Spam Musubi lately.

I wish I could go!! I have a sarong that I bought there a few years ago. It is the most beautiful one I have seen. What amazing vegetables.

I didn’t spend a lot of time at the other tents because I was so mesmerized by all the gorgeous fruits and veggies! Plus, had free samples. 🙂

I’m actually a big fan of Hilo — even though my mom and boyfriend are both from Kona. Oh, well. Hilo rules 🙂
