#CatChat: My excuse to eat Manoa Chocolate

Oh, feel bad for me.

I had to visit Dylan Butterbaugh at Manoa Chocolate (@manoachocolate) in Kailua this week. And I had to eat chocolate.

Poor me.

We shot an impromptu #CatChat — you can tell; I’m not wearing lipstick! — sampling the various bars this artisan, bean-to-bar chocolate shop has, from a 72 percent dark chocolate from Bolivia to a fun Breakfast Bar with Waialua coffee beans and nibs. Oh, yeah.

And watch the second bonus video, too. Dylan talks about the process of making chocolate bars from raw beans — and wait ’til you see how he winnows the cacao!

Here’s the #CatChat

Here’s the EXTRA video. Worth watching ’til the end, trust me.

Manoa Chocolate, 315 Uluniu St., Kailua. Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Phone: (808) 262-6789.

That was so cool! Between the really interesting winnowing machine, gotta find a way to burn off all the chocolate the guy eats, and the ‘oops’ of eating ‘hot chocolate’ this may be one of my favorite Cat Chats. And never need much f an excuse to go to Kailua anyways.

BTW: This is important to remember, eat bread when you eat something hot like that. Drinking water only activates the capsaicin more making it more hot. I’m watching this video thinking NO don’t drink the water it will get worse.

And you wore a different dress this time! Awesome.

Never thought about the fact that he was burning all the calories he ate — GENIUS!

And good to know about the bread vs. water. I heard milk is good, too.

And yes, I bought a new dress. LOL!

    Hello Cat!

I hope you didn’t force yourself to do this interview. 😆

      You may as well!

You know, it made me think of all the businesses that have place names but aren’t located in that place — like Waipahu Racquet in McCully.

CAT: Too funny! “Da sucka HOT!” Peppers, gurl, stay hot! Your facial expressions are priceless!

Could you see the camera shaking? That was my mom!

Ghost peppers? Is this guy nuts? Couldn’t he have toned it down a whole lot by using something waaaaaaay less hot, like any other kind of pepper?

The 2nd machine had me thinking I was watching something out of Gilligan’s Island. I guess the humor of it would be that it was actually designed by a Professor. LOL
