#CatTravels: Weekend in Kona

Eat and walk. Eat and walk.

That’s what it felt like we did this weekend in Kailua-Kona.

We were in town to visit Derek’s family and to accomplish two other things: hike down into Pololu Valley and eat at Hawaiian Style Cafe in Waimea.

We were successful on both counts.

And yet, we still found time to squeeze in a few more things, too.

Here’s what our quick weekend jaunt to Kona looked like:

Let's eat!

We arrived in Kona in the later afternoon, so the first thing we wanted to do was eat. Teshima's Restaurant was the call!

Hawaiian Style Cafe just opened in Hilo too on Manono St. (one block from Big Island Candies). On the opposite (Hinano St.) end of this new shopping area is Japanese restaurant Miyo’s, a new location for another long-time favorite eatery in Hilo. Something to keep in mind next time you’re in Hilo, Cat.

I saw that on the menu! I’ll definitely check it out next time I’m in Hilo. Way easier than driving to Waimea!

CAT: Thanks…no peas in fried rice but peas in mac salad? Best dish for peas is soup with ham hocks!

To be honest, I hate peas in anything, in any form. I know they’re happy little green things, but I can’t stand ’em. 😛

Peas are one of those fairly common (and innocuous) foods that I know a lot of people can’t stand. Other common foods certain people loathe include raisins, onions, and beets. My sister can’t stand beans. Any type of beans. She says it isn’t the taste, it’s the texture and feeling of biting into squishiness. I don’t pretend to understand.

    Hello Cat!
My brother lives in Kona so whenever I go at least I have a place to stay,

Looks like you both had a great time in kona! I have to remember to stop at teshima’s and that stuffed noodle thing looked interesting! The weather looked better than it was here.

***noticed a grammar error…havi? I know that was just a typo.
