If you’ve ever left your hometown for any substantial amount of time, you know the one thing you’d miss is the local cuisine.
Well, it was no different for my boyfriend, Derek, who left last night for graduate school in Madison, Wisc.
He knew exactly what he wanted to eat — and we ate it. All of it. From kalua pig and fresh poi from Ono Hawaiian Foods on Kapahulu Avenue to a chili frank plate from Rainbow Drive-In.
It was an epic weekend of eating — and I’m going to pay for it this week.
Better dig out those running shoes. I’m going to need ’em!

I think with the time difference, I could eat a late lunch and he can eat an early dinner. Same time. Skype!

Hello Cat, all of my fav places to grind too! Cat keep yourself busy, (that’s an understatement), time will fly fast and Derek will be back before you know it.

Well Cat, the clock has officially started! Judging by the pictures from the weekend it looks like you and Derek had an excellent time. Just looking at all the dishes that were eaten has me still astounded that you both are in such good shape. Well here we are on the first Monday, and I am sure you and Derek are experimenting with all the technology we have these days to keep in touch.
Just keep the faith and keep smiling! All will be good.
Also I am looking forward to the blog segments featuring Derek’s places in Madison. If he has some good picks I may have to head up there and check them out!

Hey Cat: … judging from the pics … you were just having too much of a good time to be sad … but I think we can all relate to these types of partings … we know it’s not forever, but it still feels like it in our hearts …
… anyway, if you’re like me … the hardest part is over … I’ve always felt saddest on the days leading up to a parting … you’ve reached that plateau, so it’s all downhill from this point on … in the good way, of course … you know what I mean …
… so now, you got me craving some good Hawaiian food … haven’t had it in a while … so I think I’ll head down to Young’s Fishmarket today … Ono’s look just, but Young’s is closer to home …

My mom said it’ll hit me in a couple of days. Right now it feels like he’s on a short trip. So maybe I’ll break down on Thursday… Brace yourself!
