Maui Revisited, Day 2

By Catherine Toth Fox • June 10, 2011 • #CatTravels, Food

You know how you have all these plans on your vacation — and you wind up lounging on the beach with a trashy magazine?

Well, that’s not what happened with me yesterday. But I did have lofty ideas of all the things I could accomplish in 24 hours — not really factoring in drive times and, well, napping.

Turns out, I didn’t get around to hiking Waihee Valley or finding out how that bartender makes his muddled blueberry mojito. But I did do — and eat — some pretty cool stuff.

Here’s what my second day on Maui looked like:

Our first stop yesterday was to check out the Maui Arts & Culture Center, a world-class performing arts facility in Kahului. This is the new outdoor pavilion — which Elton John opened in February — and is already the centerpiece of this campus.

Speaking of the ’98 Pearl Jam concert I mentioned a couple of posts ago, this is where it was… great venue for an outdoor concert!

Interesting, I never knew that Lahaina town sits on wetlands. I remember that there used to be a sugar cane factory nearby (I believe it was a sugar cane factory) — which has been closed now for a number of years.

The noodle dishes look great, love a good garlic noodle. If ever in Singapore try the Singapore noodle dish. It is very tasty. Had some good versions of it in Hong Kong as well. One thing for sure about anywhere in the islands, there are some remarkable grinds to be found without having to look to hard.
