When I crave a good steak, I want a good steak.
From a steakhouse.
So last week, after a serious craving for meat, I decided to try a steak joint I had never been to before: d.k Steakhouse in Waikiki.
It came highly recommended on Twitter — thanks, particularly, to @onokinegridz, for the suggestions — so I booked reservations and went.
d.k Steakhouse, created by local chef D.K. Kodama, along with Hawaii’s top sommelier Chuck Furuya, opened in 2004 to rave reviews. Critics enjoyed the restaurant’s classically and dry-aged U.S. high-grade steaks, particularly the 30-day dry-aged version that quickly became its signature offering.
So you can probably guess what we ate. Here’s a peek:
Appetizers
There were so many appetizers I wanted to try, including the sambosa (fried pastries filled with chick peas and ground beef) or the stuffed artichokes (hearts filled with veggies baked in white wine, topped with Parmesan cheese). But we went with the bulani ($5.25), fried potato and scallions in pastries served with a cilantro chutney and minty yogurt sauce. It was like a pierogi in a won ton. So good.
d.k Steakhouse, 2552 Kalakaua Ave., third floor. Hours: 5:30-10 p.m. daily. (808) 931-6280.

Hello Cat!
Fuud pixs Friday!
I never been there too and now I’m craving for a steak and eggs breakfast! 🙂
Cat, I love steak and your gallery made me realize why I love it so much.
Never been to DK. Looks scrumptious. I’ve been to Morton’s and Ruth’s. I’ll check it out. Thanks.
@CodyZamboni Like I told Aaron, what’s great about this steakhouse is that it’s locally owned. Love that!
Fuud Pix Friday!
i can’t believe u 8 the whole thing. at first i thought that was a lot of fuud but u still had room 4 chocolate gelato. the next time i’m at the Marriott in Waikiki i’ll eat at the steakhouse, as i’ve never been there.
@aaron_kaneao What I liked about it was that it’s locally owned. I couldn’t think of another high-end steakhouse that’s locally owned… So that’s a plus in my book!
And yes, I ate it all. 🙂

@aaron_kaneao I agree. Cat, the amount of food you eat is truly amazing!!
Argh I can’t believe I missed I chance to go to this place as I was at the Marriott for a little staycation earlier this year, would’ve been WAY better than where went for dinner! Will definitely make a note to check it out after seeing these pics. Bone-in ribeye *drool*
the list of sides was magical. i wd have ordered: the mushrooms, the asparagus, the beets, the onions.
@nonstopmari Honestly, I could have just eaten ALL sides. 🙂
Those potatos look huge… like logs! Never been to d.k. before… must try!
@johngarcia K, so I’m not the biggest fan of steak fries. I like my fries thin and crispy. But damn, these were good! I couldn’t stop eating them!
CAT,
Aaaiiiyyyaaahhh! Fuud Pix! Tenks! The pictures helped me remember what the steak and other fuud should look like.. The lighting there and Morton’s is so low you need a flashlight to see the menu. Fuud is great but the visual sensation adds to the overall flavor, I think. I wonder why they call it Bone in Rib Eye? Usually the Rib Eye is without bone. With the bone, I think it is called a rib steak which is just a few steaks away from the T and Porter House.
Another day of frustrating log in to post comments to this site…aaaiiiyyyaaahyhh!
@Annoddah_Dave I know… hang in there!
To quote a tv cartoon character (father to three kids and a wife with a really tall blue hairdo): “MMMmmmmm STEAK!”
Looks ono Cat. I love steak too! I’m yet to eat at d.k Steakhouse and need to get there soon. With regards to dry-aging steaks in house…I thought Wolfgang Steakhouse at the Royal Hawaiian does that too?
@nathankam Yep, Wolfgang does the same thing — and the results are equally good. But we decided to patronized a locally owned and operated restaurant. You know? 🙂
@Cat Not arguing with that. 😉 Love DK and Sansei…must have steak tho now.
