Hundreds turned out on Saturday at Kuhio Beach in Waikiki to remember legendary surfer and shaper Donald Takayama, who passed away on Oct. 22, 2012 in California.
Hawaii News Now’s Guy Hagi emceed the memorial service, which was followed by a paddle-out ceremony in the ocean. (Only flowers were scattered; no ashes.) It was simultaneous with a paddle-out in Oceanside, Calif., where Takayama resided.
Here’s a little video I did — warning, it’s six minutes long! — of the event:

For the people that could not make it to the paddle out, thanks for the video. Life is short. We should live with more aloha.
Well said!

Jenny! I love her! I fixed the captions in the video so you can read her name. Ugh, YouTube.
Aloha, I’m trying to get a hold of Jenny. I’m an old friend from California but the cell phone and email I have for her stopped working a couple of weeks ago. Any idea how I can reach her? Mahalo, Lori from Lpng Beach
I don’t have Jenny’s email address off-hand. But I might have her number somewhere. You can email me: [email protected]. Don’t want to post it here.
Thanks Cat.This gives us who were on the beach, a perspective of what we missed.
Aloha ‘oe Donald.
