I love stationery.
Yes, I’m one of those.
I write letters, I send thank-you notes, I even have a pen pal from second grade.
So of course I was thrilled to hear a new stationery boutique opened in October in Kapahulu. South Shore Paperie is owned by designer (and fashionista in her own right) Stacey Nomura. We headed there yesterday to check it out.

Sometimes a hand written thank you note is the best way to go. Can’t beat it really. Not a big fan though of expensive stationary. I usually just grab a sheet from the printer. Socially inept… that’s me.
It’s interesting that folks feel that way about handwritten notes. But we do less and less of that. It’s part of my NY resolution to connect more with people on a more personal level. And writing letters is going to be one way. Down with the trees!
Oddly enough I have been thinking about that a lot lately. When you can respond so quickly to everything I think it is too easy to lose the deeper meaning of what people are communicating. You go back and re-read a letter a few days later and often you pick up on things you missed the first time. It might serve to slow things down a bit, too much rush these days. Especially in relationships. Different subject for different day eh? But anyway, I think you are really on to something there Cat, I really do.
It is a tough business, but one in which superior paper and service will do well. Everyone should have a box of very nice all-purpose note cards at home. When I see particularly nice ones, I buy them and it saves the hurdle of going out and buying a specific-purpose one.
Assorted cards with known-artist covers work best for me. Given four Monets, one is bound to fit a particular occasion.
Sad thing is everything I love — newspapers, books, stationery, greeting cards — are becoming passe. What does that say about me!
Hey Cat … this is kind of a girls blog today … can’t say that I know of any guys who use stationery …
… but I do enjoy getting letters or notes on stationery … adds a nice touch … and the occasional fragrance or hints of perfume on the stationery is nice too!!! …
… OMG!!! … talking about this brings back memories of love letters back in high school …
… do people still do love letters??? … or is that another lost art??? … replaced by love texts??? … *sigh* … the wonders of technology …
