I was going down the escalator at the Seattle Four Seasons Olympic (it’s now a Fairmont) and Brendan Frasier was taking the escalator up.

I once talked *very* briefly to Pat Morita when I was working at an office when I was going to U.H. My boss was good friends with him.

I passed Elvis Stojko on the sidewalk (one block away from the Four Seasons!) when he was in town doing “Stars on Ice.”

I’ve met a few celebrities in my lifetime. First, flew from NYC to LAX on American. Got off the plane last and walked along talking to this nice tall brunette. We stood talking as we were waiting for our luggage to come out of the chute. Neither of us were successful. So we walked and talked all the way to the lost luggage space. I said to her, why not go ahead of me as you likely live here and I am just visiting and am in no hurry. She walked up to the counter, and by now we had chatted for well over 45 minutes, and looks at the clerk. ‘Name’ he asks. ‘Brooke Shields.’ I looked at her and eloquently said the following, ‘No fu**ing way.’ She smiled and said ‘Yep. Look a little different without the make-up on.’ We talked for a while longer and then I went along my merry way. Would love to see her again and ask her if she has any memory of it. I know I do!

A year earlier I had met Jennifer Warnes at a pool party in the Hollywood Hills. We had chatted for a a couple of hours. We were both hiding from the crowds at the house. Hadn’t a clue who she was until someone discovered her there. She had invited me to work in their crew when they toured the Australian outback… gave me her number in LA… and I lost it. What a memory that would have been!

Also met Bo Derek in DC. She was lobbying for Animal Rights and I was there for Juvenile Diabetes. She was very cordial. I always liked her so it was fun to meet her.

My only real celebrity sightings have all been NFL players.

The first, Ricky Watters, I met when I was 10 and on a trip to SF with my family. He was signing autographs at the Union Square Macy’s and my sister and I were the first in line. I was so nervous, I forgot to say anything.

The second was with my fave NFLer of all time…Steve Young. It was at the 1998 Pro Bowl in HI and I was a star-struck UH athletics media relations intern then. I got his autograph and a picture of him (from a few feet away – God knows why I didn’t ask for a picture WITH him? duh!)

Other than that, I’ve only seen Lewis Hamilton (F1 driver) at a race in Malaysia and Dame Edna on the streets of SF.

In 2000, I met glass artist Dale Chihuly at HNL while waiting for a flight back to Seattle. While talking to him, he introduced me to Detlef Schrempf (NBA basketball player) and we talked for a bit. They were really nice. I saw Shawn “The Reign Man” Kemp (NBA Sonics) on a flight but didn’t talk to him.

In college I met Mikhail Baryshnikov, who was practicing at our school for a performance at Benaroya Hall. He’s short and smokes a lot.

I was buying Lebron IV shoes at Pacific Place in Seattle when Sir Mix-A-Lot told me that I had “Dope kicks, Yo!”

I met Cal Riken, Jr at a booksigning and Giada De Laurentiis kissed me at Sur La Table at Pike Place.

I once saw Cat Toth at Shirokiya but she was on her phone and I didn’t want to bother her. 🙂
