FUUD: Cafe Miro in Kaimuki

By Catherine Toth Fox • February 18, 2011 • Food, Musings, The Daily Dish

It’s that restaurant I’ve always wanted to try — but never got around to it.

Until tonight.

We were going to check out J2, JJ’s Bistro’s new restaurant in Kaimuki, but the wait was too long and, frankly, we weren’t into the incense clouding the dining room.

So we stepped onto Waialae Avenue and looked around. Champa Thai — been there. Town — been there and loved it. And then I saw it, the red and gold sign that read “Cafe Miro.”

I pointed to it. “There,” I told my boyfriend. “That’s where we going.”

We looked at the menu posted outside. I won’t lie, the fact that it only offers prix-fixe options — a three-course ($38) and a four-course ($49) dinner — was a bit intimidating. But hey, we were here!

So here’s what we ate:

Such a shame to have that good of a loco moco with a manini portion of rice. Gotta pick up that gravy ya know? 😉 I looked at the website and apparently you can dine at the bar, maybe I can do that one night per melissa808 ‘s advice lol. Lots of places in Kaimuki I still must try!

@808marv melissa808 There was only two seats at the bar — and you have a great view of the kitchen! I love sitting at bars, actually. You don’t usually have to wait for a table and you get a show with dinner! 🙂

@808marv melissa808 I think it come with bread or rolls with the meal so that much rice is not needed since it not takeout diner style place. It indeed fine dining in a local neighborhood

Great review Cat. Thx for the info. My sister went there a long time ago and I keep wanting to go there. Great price for good food. I’ve gotta get over there soon!

I’ve been wondering about this place. Thanks for the review. Crossing my fingers that they’ll be on Groupon so I can afford to check them out! 🙂

@bumper Actually the Prix-fixe is a great deal. A little of everything (read smaller portion) but it includes appetizer to dessert. The 4 item Prix-fixe included a Seafood item the few times I’ve order it (Scallops was a choice).

CAT: Aaaiiiyyyaaahhh! Fuud Pix! Tenks. How was the wine list?? The plateau de frommage looks great…I’d go for that instead of the dessert.

    • Reply harrycovair February 25, 2011 at 10:13 pm

@Annoddah_Dave Their wine list isn’t that bad. We bring our own though and pay the corkage fee. It does help that the buds are Wino’s (make that Wine Afficionado’s) but it doesn’t help that there are more bottles of wine than there are people dining.

Beautiful Review, we’re heading over to MIRO soon.

Just went to J2 for lunch, awful small portions for the price , especially the Rack of Lamb=one bite, boo!

  • Reply harrycovair February 25, 2011 at 10:08 pm

Mmmmm, fuud p0rn. I’ve been there a few times. My fave is still the Short Rib in a Merlot (or was is Marsala) Reduction. Simply ONO! Had it first as a Prix-Fixe item and when I returned went for the full portion.

You can look out of Miro and see Town and vice versa. So J2 has incense burning inside of the eating area. That might intefere with your dining experience. Thanks for the heads up.
