People have asked me — even while we’ve been here — why would I fly halfway around the world to end up at a place that looks a lot like the place I just left.
For the surf.
Malpais is a surfer’s dream, with stretches of uncrowded breaks and year-round surf.
It’s why a lot of people drive the rough — which, by the way, is an understatement — roads for five hours to get here. (You can fly in, by the way. There’s a airport in Tambor, which is just a 45-minute drive north.)
But I had been here for more than 36 hours and I hadn’t even gotten into the water.
Well, the wait is over.

Beautiful! I’m so jealous, in a good way though. Can’t wait to see the photos of your next spot.
It’s coming — soon! I need a more consistent Internet connection :/
Nice surf breaks, any standup paddlers there?
Fuud looks guud too!
There are a few, actually. We’re going to stop by an SUP shop today! Stay tuned!
Nice, good place to go! The food looks awesome and the total number of people was PERFECT.
I think so, too! But yesterday we went back to that same spot and there were more than 30 people in the lineup. 30! YOW!
Thank you for sharing this place and your impressions.
Thanks for answering that question! I was wondering the same thing. 😉 I am glad you went tho and even more glad you let us tag along. Love hearing all about it and seeing the pics. Great job!
