Today’s happy shot

By Catherine Toth Fox • August 26, 2011 • Food, Happy Shots

OK, so it’s not a really happy shot, since this lemon crunch cake from Cake Works is really for Derek, who’s leaving for Wisconsin on Sunday. But it was damn good cake — and it made me happy. Momentarily.

The cake looks ono but the quote on it makes me a little teary-eyed…

He didn’t want anyone to say, “Goodbye” or “farewell,” so this was the most positive phrase I could come up with.

CAT: The old saying, absence makes the heart grow fonder…let’s see if it is true. If it were me, I would just marry the dude and forget about pining. That way you can act like an old married couple where separation ain’t no biggie!

Wow, had no clue that Derek was coming here so soon….. I guess it makes sense do to school starting for fall semester shortly, but we just discussed this the other day…..

Cake looks wonderful, but I agree, the top makes me sad to read….

Cat I hope you arent spending too much time on the blog or work the next couple of days, and just spending time with Derek.

Also be sure to let Derek know it is very hot and sticky here right now, so to be prepared when he gets off the plane.

Lastly, and this is the most important part…. Please tell Derek now that he is comng to the Midwest it means NFL and College Football will become a way of life. I just beg of you to please tell him not to become a Green Bay Packers fan….. Those folks up in Cheesehead land have a way of transforming people to their way of life. Tell him to join the dark side here in Chicago, and be a Bears fan.

Also offer still stands, if he ever needs anything please pass on the Cuz’s contact information, can be in Madison in a couple of hours.

I spent most of the weekend with him — though I have readings for class and a 15K-word story to finish by Monday (today). But I tried to stay away from my computer and phone as much as possible.

Sad. But this is such a great opportunity for him. He will learn a lot and, hopefully, catch a Badgers game. 🙂

Before you know it, you will be eating “Welcome Home Derek” cake, with some “Welcome to Wisconsin Cat” cake before then. Tears of joy, tears of joy.

Welcome to Wisconsin? LOL. It’ll be a cheesecake!
