Cat Chat episode 5: Scarfing

By Catherine Toth Fox • December 9, 2010 • Musings, The Daily Dish, Videos

My idea of accessorizing is earrings and hair ties I wrap around my wrist.

Suffice it to say, I’m no fashionista.

Which is why I asked Tanna Dang, owner of Eden In Love at Ward Warehouse, to give me some tips in the accessory department for this week’s Cat Chat.

Tanna showed me a quick and easy way to adorn any outfit — and stay warm at the same time: scarves.

I haven’t worn these seriously since my stint in Chicago. And I didn’t know what I was doing then!

Check out the different ways you, too, can wear a scarf — yes, even in Hawaii! — and post your own questions, suggestions and advice here. (By the way, you can get all the scarves featured in today’s episode at Tanna’s boutique.)

Enjoy!

    Dang, you beat me! I was going to do a scarf wrapping blog with jlieu & lenahanson . Then again, there were two specific styles of wrapping that I didn’t see you cover. hee hee don’t do it!

      @Melissa808 jlieu lenahanson are you referring to the ‘SanFran lockloop’?

    • Reply Maxcat December 8, 2010 at 3:58 am

      @Melissa808 jlieu lenahanson Melissa, I think you should do a scarf segment with Turk.

    • Reply Cat December 8, 2010 at 9:54 pm

      @Maxcat @Melissa808 jlieu lenahanson Seriously? Kismet! Great minds think alike, I guess! (It was Tanna’s idea, not mine.)

    here in San Francisco a scarf is survival gear. everybody wears them, year round. businessmen walking down Market St, wear wool scarves, neatly folded in the vent of their cashmere top coats. bums and winos sitting on Market St wear them like hoods. Peruvian woman on Market St sell felted ones on the corner, from folding tables, and use them to carry their babies, slung over their backs. the hipster messengers flying down Market St on their fixed gear bikes favor the silk Palestinian scarf. last year i had the brainstorm of bringing a lightweight scarf to Honolulu with me. i wear it to cover my neck when i’m out on the water. cause, im already a redneck. no sense in exacerbating the situation.

      @turkfontaine Turk, great comments. Here in Cleveland (as now with anywhere from 4 to 14 inches of snow on the ground) scraves are de rigeuer for two reasons: warmth and as a napkin to wipe burger drippings off one’s chin. For that reason we prefer darker colors which do not show food stains as easily.

    Darn. I thought this was going be about food =) Scarfing

    It’s amazing what you can do with a scarf. Who knew? 🙂 I agree with Melissa, no need cover up.

    Who would have thought you could wear scarfs in Hawaii? Who would have thought dudes could wear scarfs in Hawaii? Not that I’m gonna join the trend or anything. I do admit though, if I’m ever heading to colder climate, I just might rock a scarf because of this vid. Tre’ chic! BTW, awsome to see Mrs. Dang become a successful business woman with 2 shops now.

    I thought Cat’s idea of accessorizing was Diet Coke in one hand, and nom noms in the other…..

    • Reply hikino December 8, 2010 at 12:08 am

      After much research, I found Cat with her natural choice of accessories, complete with her new knowledge of wearing scarves……

      @hikino Hey, that’s a family photo! Where’d you get that?! 🙂

    i love to scarf! it’s how i get complimented on looking ‘fashionable’ (yes, that actual word) w/o shopping (ok, only twice). grab tank tops and camisoles while stocking up on cat litter at walmart and mix/match w/ a supply of scarves. i do love the vest tip.

    Super Cat Chat episode. From the title, I thought for sure food was involved.

  • Reply M December 8, 2010 at 1:39 am

    Hello cat! I thought this post was going to be about pigging out by the title! 😆

  • Reply 808marv December 8, 2010 at 3:35 am

    LMAO count me in as another one who wanted this to be a FUUD post. That’s the only kine scarfing I know! 😉

    The coffee grinder would make a good gift for my wife.

    • Reply Cat December 8, 2010 at 9:53 pm

      @M I’ve heard good things about this coffee grinder. I don’t drink coffee, but I brew a batch every day. Love the smell, hate the taste. Is that weird…?

    • Reply johngarcia December 9, 2010 at 3:11 pm

      @Cat @M So, you brew coffee just for the smell? Do you use cheap coffee and just throw it out, or does quality coffee make for a better aroma and smell?

    • Reply M December 9, 2010 at 7:28 pm

      @Cat I don’t drink coffee too.

    • Reply Cat December 10, 2010 at 11:18 am

      @M Oh, I buy the good stuff. Luckily I now have someone who enjoys a great, strong, robust cup of joe. My dogs weren’t having it.

  • Reply chant808 December 8, 2010 at 5:58 am

    Scarves are my favorite accessory too… I’ve got an entire drawerful of ’em 😛

    • Reply Cat December 8, 2010 at 9:52 pm

      @chant808 You and Mari combined might own every scarf in the world. 🙂

    • Reply chant808 December 9, 2010 at 5:03 am

      @Cat Hahaha… not YET we don’t! I’m still working on it though…

  • Reply CodyZamboni December 8, 2010 at 12:02 pm

    scarfs……………gee, well………………..let’s just say I’m not the audience for this episode. But it was fun and lively. And that vest trick was neat. I can now save alot of money and buy my girlfriend a “vest” for Xmas.
